New Old Car - 380SL

Yes, the POS antenna was removed and replaced with a 300E antenna
with "custom" bracket, looks original...at 1/4 the 107 prices...

I bought this because I won't drive my 560SL in bad weather (my definition of bad weather: not sunny and not over 50 degrees F). I paid only about 1/4 of what I paid for my 560SL for it, and it had less miles. However, it wasn't in as nice condition. It had a little rust on one fender/rocker and the engine made a terrible sound. I suspected that the noise was cam/cam follower related. It was, and I had to replace all the cam followers on the RH side and the cam; the oil tube fitting had popped out and metal-on-metal wear quickly wore through the cam's surface hardening. Even with very careful shopping, this was over $400 in parts damaged by a $3.00 part (I'd guess that this job would be $1500-$2000 at a dealer). Nonetheless, I had built this problem into the price that I paid.

While I was in there, I went through the engine completely.

This will be my daily driver soon, and I've been repairing and upgrading it in preparation for the spring, when I'll finish up some suspension work and do the needed (slight) rust removal and paint. Hopefully, when I'm done, I won't wind up with TWO cars I won't drive in bad weather...then I'll have to buy another 107 to drive everyday, and I'll fix it up...
